Hi, I’m Brooke!

Principal Interior Designer + Founder of The Collective Haus

An unusual artistic road.

There’s a reason I was obsessed with my doll house more than my dolls. Interior design is what I was born to do, even if it took me a while to realize that. I grew up watching (and “helping”) my parents run a gravel business and a home decor store. My childhood was filled with musical instruments, dancing, theater, art, and design. So naturally, I decided to major in Visual Art at Boise State University, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts.

After a few additional years of college exploring Psychology and Dietetics at the University of Idaho, I realized I was moving further and further away from my creativity and love of art. So, I moved to Seattle. I fell in love with the city in 2005 when I visited on a family trip as a teen. In 2014, I took over my older sister’s guest room (thank you, Deb 😅) and found a job: a part time cashier position at a suburban Whole Foods Market. Pushing carts, ringing organic veggies, and chatting about kombucha flavors was my new normal.

My Seattle awakening, and then returning to my Boise roots.

Within four months, I was promoted to a supervisor role at the flagship store in the city, moving very quickly again into a role in the beauty and home department. I merchandised the large home goods, clothing, and beauty area. This form of “decorating” the shelves and displays reminded me of helping my mom with the home decor store as a child. I knew I needed to get back to my roots, and work creatively, so I found a showroom design associate position at a granite and tile warehouse in the industrial district of Seattle.

I gave tours of the granite warehouses, educated clients on technical specifications, and curated sample bags of requested tile. This position laid the foundation for the designer I am today. In 2017, I moved back to Boise and worked for another designer, learning all about spec and semi-custom homes. The combination of my creative and construction-based childhood, jobs in Seattle, and working with a local designer allowed me to dream up The Collective Haus, launched in 2018.
